How to Store Wax Melts & Candles During Hot Weather

As temperatures rise during the summer months, we often get asked the best way to store wax melts and candles to keep them looking and smelling their best. While home fragrance products are designed to be enjoyed all year round, warmer weather can affect how they look if they are not stored correctly.

Here are our top tips for storing your wax melts and candles during hotter days and summer heatwaves.

Keep Away from Direct Sunlight

Direct sunlight is one of the quickest ways to soften, fade, or melt wax products. Always store your wax melts and candles in a shaded area away from windowsills, conservatories, or sunny rooms. A cool cupboard or drawer is ideal.

Sunlight can also affect candle colour over time, especially with highly fragranced or coloured wax products.

Store in a Cool, Dry Place

Wax melts and candles are best kept at a stable room temperature. During very warm weather, try storing them in the coolest room in your home.

Avoid storing products in:

  • Cars
  • Garages
  • Sheds
  • Loft spaces
  • Near radiators or appliances

Heat can cause candles to soften, bend slightly, or lose their shape.

Keep Packaging & Lids Sealed

Keeping wax melts sealed in their original packaging helps protect the fragrance oils and keeps the scent stronger for longer.

For candles, always keep lids on when not in use to help preserve the fragrance and prevent dust settling on the wax.

Avoid Leaving Products in Cars

Cars can become extremely hot during summer, even on milder days. Leaving candles or wax melts in a vehicle for long periods may cause melting, sweating, warping, or damage to packaging.

Why Do Wax Melts & Candles “Sweat”?

You may notice tiny droplets or a slight oily appearance on your wax melts or candles during hotter weather. This is often called “sweating” and is completely normal, especially with highly scented or natural wax products.

Sweating happens when fragrance oils rise to the surface in warmer temperatures. The good news is that this does not affect the performance, scent throw, or quality of your products.

Can You Put Wax Products in the Fridge?

If temperatures become unusually high, you can place wax melts or candles in a cool room or fridge drawer for a short period of time. Just make sure they are sealed properly to avoid moisture or fragrance transfer.

Avoid freezing wax products, as sudden temperature changes can sometimes affect the appearance of the wax.

Enjoy Your Home Fragrance All Summer Long

With a little extra care during warmer weather, your wax melts and candles will stay fresh, beautiful, and ready to fill your home with fragrance all summer long.
